For all her notoriety, Lindsay Lohan is at least an accomplished actress.
The same cannot be said for her co-stars in The Canyons (* out of four;
unrated; opens Friday in select theaters), an inept, misanthropic melodrama written by novelist Bret Easton Ellis and funded mostly through a Kickstarter campaign.
Despite the toll that hard partying has taken on the 27-year-old former child star, Lohan displays flashes of vulnerability amid vacuous moments. The rest of the cast might as well be mannequins.
